YSP Open Call – FAQ

1. What is this open call for?
Yazzabear Self-Publishing Press (YSP) is looking to connect with creatives and community members who want to collaborate, share work, host workshops, perform, or contribute to collective publications and events. This is a call to build with us.

2. Who can submit or participate?
Anyone! We especially encourage underrepresented voices in publishing, the arts, and education. Whether you’re emerging, experienced, or somewhere in between, we want to hear from you.

What kind of work are you looking for?

  • Written work (poetry, prose, zines, essays)

  • Visual art (illustration, painting, design, comics)

  • Music & performance (bands, solo acts, spoken word)

  • Workshops or event ideas (storytelling, community care, creative skillshares)

  • Collaborators interested in helping us organize or grow

3. How do I get involved?
You can:

  • Submit work or event ideas via email: yazzabearpress@gmail.com

  • DM us on Instagram: @yazzabearpress

  • Join our Discord or come to a YSP meeting

4. Do I need to live in the Bay Area?
Not necessarily! Many of our events are in-person in the Bay, but we’re expanding digitally and are open to remote collabs, online features, and publication submissions from anywhere.

5. Is this paid?
YSP is a grassroots nonprofit currently run by volunteers. Most opportunities are unpaid for now, but we’re actively fundraising to shift this. We always credit work, promote artists, and split donations when possible.

6. What’s the mission behind this?
To create radically accessible, community-powered creative spaces. We’re here to amplify voices, celebrate self-expression, and publish truth without gatekeeping.
